Karen and her husband, Jeff, have visited six of the seven continents: Antarctica, Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Visiting Australia is definitely on her bucket list because of cute, seemingly cuddly koala bears. When she was a youngster, the San Diego Zoo afforded Karen the experience of seeing koalas in person, but there’s nothing quite like seeing animals do what they do in their natural habitat. Such was the case when Karen encountered penguins in Antarctica after surviving intense seasickness due to a harrowing trip sailing through the Drake Passage, the roughest seas on the planet.
In between travel adventures near and far with her husband, family, and friends, Karen fills her time as a personal stylist for cabi!, a boutique fashion brand. In the summers, Karen is a swim instructor, operating a swim school from her home—a skill that she learned from her father growing up in Santa Rosa, California. She also volunteers at Little Hooves & Big Hearts, a nonprofit organization that serves children with special needs and the elderly. Karen is a retired second-grade schoolteacher and adores her fur baby, and two adult children—a daughter and a son.

You are invited to attend the Wise Women Portrait Gala on Thursday, October 13th at the Savoy Opera House in Tucson, Arizona from 5-9 p.m. Parking is plentiful and free and there will indoor and outdoor seating. Each participant will be featured in a creative portrait on display in the art exhibit.
